Our Roots
Our home comfort foods are passed down over four generations of Muskokan’s. Good, simple and perfect for everyday living.
began.
Well Fed came to be through the transformation of a 100 year old stable into Gravenhurst’s freshest deli and bakery. The historical building was purchased by proprietor Annette Gillan and her husband in September of 2009. Now proud owners of the future home of Well Fed, renovations began in January 2011, transforming the old stable into the establishment we know and love today.
As structures were being torn down, a not-so-unlikely treasure was discovered hidden within the walls of the stable. A rusty old horseshoe, along with its original nails, was found by Annette and foreshadowed the good luck to come. It now hangs above the entranceway to the kitchen – where all the Well Fed magic happens.
Its been a journey for the Gillans, but well worth it. Well Fed was inspired from the loss of Annette’s Muskoka based manufacturing job of 14 years, and from that one loss came the creation of 5 jobs… and growing… as a result of being embraced by the local community and year round support for Well Fed.
Today, Well Fed is considered a staple in locals’ and visitors’ minds alike, as the place to find authentic old Muskoka charm and fare. Well Fed is made up of passionate cooks, bakers, and staff who work diligently every day to make and serve delicious, thoughtful, homemade comfort foods. We love what we do, and hope that comes through in every single bite.
love.
Annette Gillan, owner of Well Fed, is always mixing things around, looking for ways to combine the fresh ingredients she has on hand to create something unique. As a fourth-generation Muskoka girl, born and bred, Gillan saw the need for a great takeout shop that offered true, home-cooked fare.
It has truly been a Labour of Love for Annette, her family and her loyal customers. And she keeps on going. The creative menus change with the seasons, year after year.

“I cannot stop singing their praises to everyone I meet. Not only was Annette an absolute pleasure to work with, plan with and accommodate unpredictable dietary restrictions, but her food was DELICIOUS, the servings were HUGE and the HEART that she put into the food was enjoyed with every bite! All of the ladies were so grateful for your hard work! Highly, highly recommended.”
“Terrific little deli with a twist in Gravenhurst. I think most people believe it is just another average deli but truth be told, owner Annette has created a menu that is not only diabetic and heart smart too she also offers the same level of food excellence in catering packages as well… if you are running late and need a delicious, health conscious homemade meal, they have that too. WELL, worth it!”
“It might be hard to believe that the Worlds Greatest Rueben sandwich is made right here in Gravenhurst – but its true! Perfectly cooked corned beef smothered in swiss cheese and mustard between fried rye bread makes this something incredibly yums. Annette serves up wonderful food with a smile… and she even puts a cherry on top!”
“A wonderful, different menu of homemade delights. And the proprietor is always there to help Gravenhurst. Just off the main street, it’s a place to get your lunch and eat in the little park right around the corner…”
